There are over 10,000 birds in the world and I want to see and photograph them all. It is the very definition of an impossible task. Too little time and too many birds. I need to post a picture on a daily basis to finish before I am 70. Lets see where we get to...

127 : Besra
Besra - Accipiter virgatus
I agree - I have never heard of one of these before either ! Not a common bird in India and at first I thought it was a Shikra (as did the guides) which is roughly the equivalent of a sparrowhawk in the UK. We used this photo and a bit of book work to identify this properly as a Besra. Not a common bird so very pleasing. I also saw a Shikra but did not manage to get a shot.
The bold striping on the sides and darker back clinches it. This bird is a tiger on the prowl. That beak and talons would make short work of an Indian Robin.
