198 : Black-bellied Bustard

Black-bellied Bustard - Eupodotis melanogaster

There are eight species of bustard listed in my Birds of East Africa and I almost didn't see this one. Out of the corner of her eye Mrs C saw a slight movement in the long grass. It probably took me another couple of minutes to see what she was looking at !

Thats a business critical bird spot. Who knows what else is in the long grass - high up from a safari vehicle you have some chance to see things. I would not want to wade through this waste high for obvious reasons. There are probably three more species of bustard, assorted quail, larks, pippets and grouse milling about in there !
